Have been battling fever and stomach infection since 25th night, so today that I am in a condition to sit upright I thought that I need to share this amazing recipe by Nigella Lawson that I saw yesterday on TLC. Even though my stomach revolted with the thought of any other food apart from curd but this had my heart strings tugging. Well this is basically a mid night snack that she suggest but I feel its a great dessert and it’s easy to make ,unlike Nigella I guess most of of us don’t store half/ cooked yummies in the fridge to dig out at night (BTW I read somewhere that mid night snacking is a disorder). So here goes the recipe-
Nigella says slightly stale bread I’ll say 1 day old white/ milk bread – 1 piece cut into 2 halves
1 egg
1 table spoon vanilla essence
5-6 Fresh Strawberries
1/4 lemon squeeze
250 gms Plain sugar
250 gms Icing sugar
So just whip the eggs and the vanilla together and let the bread pieces soak in the vanilla and the egg, turn it around once your done with the steps given below
Churn the strawberries and icing sugar in the blender with the lemon squeeze till its a puree
Heat some butter(about a tea spoon) with a dash of oil so that the butter doesn’t burn
Add the step 1 pieces of bread and shallow fry/ saute them in the pan on both the sides till they are crisp
Roll the crisp pieces of bread in normal sugar
Serve the way it is with the Strawberry Puree
PS- I know I said I will write about the uber cool joints I promise will write about it on Monday around lunch that’s the time I’m most inspired 🙂
Hey, what do you do with the egg? its like a french toast? Saw this recipe about 2 years back and remember thinking how yummy and sinful it looked.
Sounds nice – But what did she call it? And where’s the photo of Nigella.. that would really bring this recipe to life! 😉
@ RC-She din call it anything, all she said was it tasted like doughnuts, did you notice they just show her face? anytime she moves it becomes blurry , its all above the waist ever wondered why 😉
@Kopili- eggs come in step 1 vanilla & egg is mixed together, ya like the French Toast as my dad puts it its cross between ‘Shahi Tukra’ & French toast : D
